Editorial Guidelines

Effective date: October 2025

1. Our Mission & Tone

We aim to be a vibrant, authoritative editorial destination for watch enthusiasts and curious newcomers alike. Our goal is to make watch culture accessible, engaging and fun, while maintaining editorial integrity. We cover news, deep dives, reviews, opinion pieces and stories that illuminate the artistry, heritage and mechanics of fine timepieces.

We embrace a tone that is:

  • Welcoming & inclusive: whether you’re just starting your watch-journey or you’ve been collecting for decades.
  • Knowledgeable but not condescending: we don’t talk down, we bring readers along.
  • Passionate yet objective: we love watches, but we also ask the tough questions and maintain independence.
  • Clear and engaging: we avoid unnecessary jargon; when technical terms appear we explain them.

2. Editorial Independence

  • Our editorial team is free to write and publish content without undue influence from advertisers, sponsors or brands.
  • Any content that is paid for, sponsored or involves affiliate relationships will be clearly labelled as such. Transparency is paramount.
  • We distinguish advertising/promotional content (which may be influenced by brand/partner) from editorial content (which is independent).
  • Our readers should know when they are reading an opinion, an advertorial, or a sponsored piece.

3. Accuracy & Fact‐checking

  • All factual claims (specifications, pricing, historical assertions) must be verified with credible sources (brand info, technical documents, industry experts).
  • If we publish errors, we will correct them promptly and transparently.
  • Any image attribution, copyright or usage rights must be respected; where required we obtain permissions.

4. Ethical Considerations

  • We disclose conflicts of interest: if a writer owns a watch being reviewed, or if a brand provided a loan piece, this must be stated.
  • We accept editorial access (brand loan pieces, press trips) only under clear guidelines that allow us full editorial control.
  • We avoid accepting gifts or incentives from brands in exchange for favourable coverage (unless clearly labelled and above board).
  • We respect copyright and intellectual property.

5. Sponsored Content & Advertorials

  • Sponsored articles must be clearly labelled as “Sponsored”, “Paid Content” or similar.
  • Advertorials and content under brand influence must follow a format that makes it clear to readers that it’s promotional.
  • Our editorial standards still apply: readability, style, and professionalism must be maintained even in sponsored pieces.

6. Affiliate Links & Monetization

  • Where affiliate links appear (e.g., in buying guides), this is disclosed clearly to readers.
  • The presence of affiliate links does not influence our editorial opinion or assignment of story angles.

7. Corrections & Reader Feedback

  • We encourage readers to flag factual errors or omissions via email ([email protected]).
  • Corrections will be published at the bottom of the relevant article or in a visible corrections log.
  • We value constructive feedback and may publish reader letters or comments when relevant.

8. Harassment, Discrimination & Respect

  • Our editorial and community environments must be free from harassment, abuse, hate speech or discriminatory content.
  • Writers and contributors must treat colleagues, interviewees and subjects with respect.
  • We reject behaviour that undermines the dignity, safety or equality of participants.

9. Contributor Guidelines

  • Contributors (writers, photographers, videographers) must adhere to the style guide (grammar, brand voice, formatting).
  • Contributors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Contributors must grant WatchPoint rights to edit, format and publish the work across our platforms (website, newsletters, social media).
  • Contributors should submit originals (text, images, video) and supply proper captions, credits and metadata.

10. Branding & Style

  • Our editorial style is guided by our house style (spelling, punctuation, use of British/Australian English, time-zone references etc).
  • We use clear headlines, sub-headings, bullet lists where appropriate to enhance readability.
  • We respect photography and imagery: high quality, properly credited, alt text included for accessibility.

11. Comments & Community Engagement

  • Our website may host comments. We reserve the right to moderate, edit or remove comments that violate our community standards (spam, abuse, off‐topic, discriminatory).
  • Commenters must follow the same respect and civility standards as our writers.

12. Data, Privacy & Cookies

  • Editorial data (reader analytics, engagement metrics) are used to inform content strategy, but not in a way that compromises reader privacy.
  • We follow our published Privacy Policy regarding user data and cookies.
  • Contributors may not use reader data inappropriately or share private audience data outside authorised usage.

13. Legal & Regulatory Compliance

  • We comply with applicable laws (defamation, copyright, privacy, advertising standards).
  • Reviewers must be mindful of statements that could be defamatory or misled as factual claims.
  • We follow advertising disclosure laws relevant in Australia and internationally.

14. Review & Update

  • These editorial guidelines are reviewed annually (or sooner if required) to ensure they stay current with industry norms and regulatory changes.
  • Changes to the guidelines will be communicated to all contributors and will apply to future content.
